It occurs to me that I could look through my old Knuckles the Echidna comics and find out the actual reason that he can fly (I think he actually glides. One more lie), but where’s the fun in that? This comic is a pretty good example of what the entire writing process of Ready Soup is like. We either have stupid conversations like this or pretend to pitch comics we or someone else has already made to each other. For example, I’ll say, “Let’s make a comic where Micheal Otters goes to kick a football, but John pulls it away at the last second, and he falls on his ass,” or John will say, “How about Mitch hates Mondays and then eats a lot of lasagna.” We probably say about ten of these every time we write. Really, you’d think the bit would get old, but we keep doing it. Also we play classic RPGs and watch Power Rangers. We do that a lot.
Hello, dear readers. It’s Scott again, back from vacation. I hope you enjoyed our Power Rangers epic and John’s commentary. Now, back to your regularly scheduled comicstripery.
John picked up Darksiders 2 Monday, and we’re really enjoying it. It strikes me as a sort of mix between a Zelda title and I want to say God of War even though I’ve never played God of War. I really like the setting; the art direction of the world and all the NPCs is great. The only major thing I don’t like about it is Death. I just find him to be completely unlikable. He’s disinterested in everything and makes unnecessarily snide comments to everyone whether they’re helping him or not. It’s like I’m playing as Scar from The Lion King. Their voices even sound the same.
Making him seem even more aloof and uncaring is his use of his giant skeletal death power hands to do tasks he is completely capable of doing himself. They open doors, open chests, and hold keys for him. He even makes a hand motion that would open the doors while he summons the hands to do it for him.
Each episode, Zordon would proclaim a need for “teenagers with attitudes.” I always found it rather odd that a force of justice and good, like Zordon, would be interested in attitudes, Zordon being a rather emotionless floating head who’s usual desired companion is a extremely attitude-less robot, Alpha 5. Maybe years and years of Alpha 5’s general lack of attitude made Zordon yearn for something deeper, friends that could challenge him on a different level. Although it may seem like Zordon only summoned the mighty teens out of sheer boredom, boredom’s true home lies at the castle of Zedd and Rita. Whether it be avoiding blame for their own clear failures, undermining their own plots, or throwing wildly premature celebration parties, the lengths at which they go to avoid taking over earth are astounding. Even still, we here at ReadySoup can’t help but love those clumsy conquerers, and we salute the efforts of our foolish foes.
